Maintenance Alert
Here is a good tip from one of our members, Brad Fluck, on an issue he recently had with his Vette:
Ron:
I was wondering if you could pass a couple of maintence items to our
members and place on our web sit too. I just got done spending $1,700 on
repairs and they were not covered by my warranty.
I have a 2000 Coupe and am not sure if this pertains to other than the C5
models or not. Under the the hood right below the windshield is the
screen like plastic cover I believed called the cowel. On each corner on
the ouitside under it is a small tank to catch water from rain and car
washing and so on. Below these tanks are drainage tubes 2 each about 4"
long and look like a cows udder.
Well these tubes were plugged up with bugs and dirt so the tanks would not
drain. Therefore the water flowed into the car and took out my fuse box,
main brain box and wiper motor. This is why I have been having trouble
with wipers, turn signals, windows and seats.
I find nothing in the owners manual about cleaning these out on any
maintnece program. It is very simple to remove the screws that hold this
plastic cover on and get to the tank and hoses. On the passenger side you
would have to remove battery too.
Also when I was changing my oil a few weeks ago I looked up under the
front at the radiator and found all sorts of stuff plugged up in there.
As we know the front end is low to the road and the air is scopped up of
the road. Maybe it is just me but I never thought to look up there. I
did however take my air compressor and blew both the radiators out and got
about a 1/3rd cup of real fine dirt out of them. I had noticed my car
running hotter and with 94,000 miles thought to just change out
thermostate, I did but I know all the stuff in radiators did not help any.
I hope these items are clear to all, if not give me a call and hope it
saves maybe one person the money.
Happy Vetting!
Brad Fluck

- Bring them to a meeting or to one of our events.
- Put an ad in the Hutch Leader and Galaxy
- Give new members a welcome packet that might include a hat or visor and/or window decal (vinyl cling).
- Ron will look into pricing on hats. Kathy W will get pricing on window decals.

- Membership dues are payable at the October quarterly meeting.
Our Annual Car Show – A decision will be made at the October meeting as to whether or not to have a car show next year. Ron asked for comments and suggestions on the show. What went well, what didn’t, and what could we do better for the next show if we have one:
